pleased when I found he said not real pleased right now for that matter But done is done" Stadler paused and frowned "I read the decisions book last year and I read the rules book this year It cost me One of these days take a month off to read them Actually he could have saved himself some aggravation by walking into the Smoking Room in the clubhouse and perusing the original 13 Articles and Laws in Playing at Golf right there: "The Ball must be Plaed where it lyes Except it is at least half Covered with Water or filth When it may if the Player Chases be taken out Teed and Played with any Club upon Loosing a Stroke" on Sunday and telephoned the PGA Tour offices Stadler finished his Sunday round tied for second but was then disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard That mistake cost him $37333 his share of second-place money almost $50000 in endorsem*nt bonuses an opportunity to play on the Ryder Cup team and a substantial number of Nabisco Challenge points This time his error was brought to his attention before he signed his scorecard saving him from being disqualified least still playing in the tournament tomorrow and that makes it belter than the last one" he said guess at No 5 somewhere right of Ollie North and followed that by misinterpreting the rules On the PGA Tour players are permitted to lift clean and drop without penalty anytime a ball is Imbedded (Rule 25-2) On the European Tour free drops are given only when a ball is imbedded in the fairway Violating the rule is a two-stroke penalty and Stadler was informed after the round that his score was 69
